A Review of President Obama's Foreign Policy
The Moral Need for Recognizing Obvious Facts Over Rhetoric

Introduction

Many political commentators expressed from the very beginning their predictions. In all the reasoned analysis, there were two lynch-pins that all rational human beings should pay heed to when it comes to world leaders (politicians to be exact).

First, based on basic political theory, whoever funds a candidate will have an influence, the more funding you give, the more influence you have, that is hardly a revolutionary idea. Without going into too much detail, it is no secret that Obama is funded by elite interests (large corporations, legal firms, millionaire lobby groups) who are within the Bill Clinton realm of influence. Practically across the board, it was predicted that his policies would take a similar outlook as the Clinton Administration which is nothing to be proud of. Putting aside bombing of pharmaceutical plants in Sudan, escalating Serbian massacres during NATO’s Kosovo war and reaffirming U.S. support for President Suharto’s campaign of genocide in East Timor, until he became an embarrassment, again, it was definitely nothing to be proud of.

Second, based on past precedence, when U.S. officials publicly state an intention they should be taken very seriously as the chances of them following through is extremely high. When it comes from the President, especially in cases of aggressive posturing, chances are they will go through with it.

A couple of things were made obvious by President Obama from the get-go:

i. Threats of attacking Iran if they do not comply with U.S. demands.

ii. Complete and immediate pull-out from Iraq with very little detail on what that would entail.

iii. Increasing the troops in Afghanistan significantly.

iv. Based on the official printed statements of policy intentions (one was featured prominently on his website) toward Israel, AIPAC speeches, calls for Jerusalem as being the undivided capital of Israel and virtual silence on the plight of Palestinians, there will be NO change in U.S. policy from previous president’s including Bush.

v. Approving military incursions at Pakistan’s borders with the threat to attack.

vi. Refusal to lift the illegal embargo on Cuba.

All of these things were made evident from the very beginning by Obama through his own words and actions. They were said bluntly and with no effort to veil them. It takes a simple Google search to directly attribute these to Obama.

These stated goals carry one overarching message: United States’ continued defiance of international law for the sake of its economic and political interests.

With the exception of the refusal to lift the illegal embargo on Cuba (only family travel restrictions have been lifted), I will be expanding on each one of these points. I have divided this article into the following sections.
