A Review of President Obama's Foreign Policy
The Moral Need for Recognizing Obvious Facts Over Rhetoric

Mumbai Deserved Condolences, Gaza Deserved Israeli Encouragement

When the terrorist attack happened in Mumbai, Obama released a statement as soon possible condemning it. When 1,000 Palestinians (majority women and children) were massacred in Israeli wholesale terror, it was pure silence. In fact, Obama expressed sympathetically that if his children were being attacked, he would do everything in his power to defend them. Of course, he was referring to Israel's right to self defense and not Palestinians who had the right to get massacred in comparison to those in Mumbai. At most, the cattles of Gaza deserve tepid encouragement that the high tech weaponry that the U.S. will continually provide their butchers, with no inkling from the Obama Administration that it will halt, will no longer be used as long as they recognize the Palestinian Authority who they have long shunned due to widespread corruption and for acting as the Israeli/U.S. lapdog.

Obama made serious overtures to shut down Guantanamo and request reviews of every single prisoner cases there despite the order being riddled with suspect references of shipping prisoners off to third countries. Based on the U.S. record, that usually means shipping them off to countries with poor human rights records where prisoners will definitely be tortured (For a more detailed article and a short commentary on a Human Rights Watch case report, read it here). Nevertheless, even if people are to attribute Obama with a good responsive heart, one cannot ignore nor should they even entertain the idea that this happened in a vacuum. Guantanamo was an absolute embarrassment to the United States and they have long been the subject of external pressure (both legal and activist lobbying) to shut it down.

Surely with such efforts, you would expect the same from Obama when it comes to halting the flow of weapons that are being used for the wholesale massacre of Palestinians, but no action on this regard was even entertained. In fact, again, Obama expressed sympathy for Israel despite Amnesty International’s statement on January 15/09:

“Tenders for two other arms shipments totalling 325 containers of US munitions were approved by the Pentagon on 31 December, four days after the start of Israel's current attacks on targets in Gaza. These two consignments were due to be shipped to Ashdod from Askatos in Greece, but they have now been cancelled, according to information provided to Amnesty International by the US Military Sealift Command. Tender documents show that these shipments contain white phosphorus, known for its potential to cause severe burns and an indiscriminate weapon when used as an airburst in densely-populated civilian areas as now alleged in Gaza.”

At the most minimum, you would expect Obama to at least offer condolences or engage in a lazy effort, but it was necessary to maintain the status quo for the sake of necessary funding that required the usual ritualistic slaughter of Arabs.
