Why Silk Road Directory/Canadian Muslims Group
Retracted Their Support for the 'Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit'

Written December 12, 2009

NOTE: After this article was posted on December 12, 2009, P4E removed Al-Sunnah Foundation from its "Donations" page and it now asks cheques to be forwarded to the Islamic Society of Markham which is a registered charity. P4E explains that they are working on obtaining their charity status.

A little word of mouth and sharing of knowledge are never bad.  It takes a long time but with persistence and unwavering commitment the truth will always win out. This article has three goals:

i. To analyze the retraction of Silk Road Directory and Canadian Muslims Group.

ii. To explain the connection between Ahlus Sunnah Foundation, Paradise 4 Ever, Silk Road Directory, Canadian Muslims Group (as referred to on Facebook) and Muslim Day @ Canada's Wonderland -- "The Muslim Day Circle".

iii. To explain how these groups live off of "Liberal Muslims" and how their "liberalism" is exposed as a fraud.

“The Dead Sea Scrolls – ROM’s Special Offer to Muslims” Fiasco

Silk Road Directory/Canadian Muslims Group has withdrawn their support of the ‘Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit at the ROM’. For an organization that has been supposedly profiteering off of “Muslim” events they have been putting together for years, you think they would put more time and effort into researching their initiatives. To inform themselves of the realities of the world and the political environment that people are facing before they start lining their pockets.

While they have managed to put together a modest retraction of their support of the Dead Sea Scrolls Exhibit, it was not an easy sell when they were first informed of how morally embarrassing the stance they have taken is. Thus, someone from the organization shot back with:

"The Muslim Ummah has rights over these scrolls as a common religious and cultural heritage between Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Israel is not the owner of the scrolls and the matter will be decided along with other matters like East Jerusalem in the final settlement as per the 1993 Oslo Accords and the Cairo Agreement. Our participation reaffirms our rights and we will be giving the Palestinian perspective thru participation in lectures and tours. Our dealing is with the ROM which is a Canadian organization owned by all of us. Our angle is academic value and scientific. We respect those who don't want to attend."

Eventually the facts got far too overwhelming and they had to secede. To view the response, please visit my Facebook page and view my notes.

Different Names, One Circle – “The Muslim Day Circle”

While I do appreciate their willingness to accept a mistake, I cannot help but be sceptical about their change of heart regarding their previous stance, so clearly explained by its members. I mean, you are talking about a circle that heart-warmingly embraces the Canadian military and invites them to recruit Muslims to fight illegal wars overseas at a supposedly “innocent” event at Canada’s Wonderland. We are talking about an organization that shape-shifts from one name to another, blurring alliances and connections as to confuse whoever it is that might get smart of their game:

Ahmad Amiruddin’s Ahlus Sunnah Foundation, (name/organization omitted), Silk Road Directory, Canadian Muslims Group and Muslim Day at Canada’s Wonderland are all ran by the same circle (from hereon, I will refer to them as the “Muslim Day Circle”).

They all manage to get into every single nook and cranny of the Muslim community, again, blurring intentions and alliances. Funnelling their money into whatever initiative it might be so that they can rub elbows with the religious and political elites or gain any sort of clout that they can get from Muslims to advance their political agendas.

Before it was pointed out, Ahlus Sunnah Foundation was openly attached to all these projects until Amiruddin personally introduced the world to his insane views regarding the Muslim community on national television. Winning ideological points for his definition of “extremists”, a complete disgrace to the Islamic ideology he is supposedly purporting.  Taking advantage of a political environment that manages to cite a respected Imam like Ali Hindy to be a danger to Canadian society because he warns people about CSIS harassment. It is not bravery that the Muslim Day Circle displays, it is cowardice that takes advantage of an advantageous situation for personal gain.

Of course, now Amiruddin’s organization has become a lighting rod, so it has been working in the background. It is like a pimple that refuses to go away during Prom Night, it just comes out of nowhere when you least suspect it. For example, Paradise 4 Ever asks you forward your cheques to Ahlus Sunnah Foundation so they may provide you with receipts. It was on the front page before, now it has been demoted to the “Donations” page because someone pointed it out. It doesn’t take a professional detective to observe these things.

Nevertheless, his foul stench is still there in the form of promotional materials regarding the so-called “Detox Program” for extremist Muslims that he and his circle has put together. A program that they attempted to shove down Omar Khadr’s throat as a precondition to his possible return to Canada. In light of all this, is it surprising that (name/organization omitted) is also claiming that he has formed a strong relationship with CSIS?

As it relates to Silk Road Directory/Canadian Muslims Groups’ Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit retraction, again, I am highly sceptical that they had a genuine change of heart. I could be wrong but it is difficult to shake the possibility that they just realized how much they shot themselves in the foot.

Living Off of “Liberal Muslims”

The Muslim Day Circle lives off the idea that they represent what the ideal “Liberal Muslim” is. They are the ones that will give them their clout and money. When they expose their true colours as it relates to politics, they are exposed as absolute frauds. Despite their assumptions, “Liberal Muslims” do care about CSIS harassing innocent Canadians or providing justice to the Palestinian people according to terms that they deserve, beyond the authoritarian dictations of Israel.

Unfortunately, that is what I feel happened with the recent retraction. When things are broken down, issue to issue, factual information in full view, they are exposed. They will go where the support is. Fortunately, they miscalculated their resources and found zero support in their last initiative.

When it comes to the Palestine-Israel conflict, it is rare to find Muslims or Arabs that will not smack you upside the head if you waver on your indignation. Although, people can be easily tricked if they do not know the specifics of the issue. As displayed by the original reaction from the organizers, they shot with the typical Israeli propaganda of “Oslo” and “Cairo” Agreements which legitimized Israeli apartheid.

The same goes with this circles’ stance regarding CSIS. They openly support them despite all the initiatives within the community highlighting their human rights abuses.  I wonder how long they can maintain such ties in light of the growing movement on the issue.

It is hard to believe that these people are so politically ignorant that they did not know in advance how contentious the Dead Sea Scroll issue is. I mean, they shot back with a very well-thought out response (albeit, wrong). They have clearly thought the issue through or else they would not have attempted to rationalize their stance.

The only other alternative is that these people are extremely lazy when it comes to researching an issue before they decide to support it. They have grown bold because they have gotten used to no one calling them out on their stupidity.

I can only hope that people will start viewing these organizations as one entity. The same people and the same idiotic outlook on the world. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you: the Muslim Day Circle.
